S2E1: When Doves Cry

For our miscellaneous shots today, I first grabbed this dude in a gingham shirt and also, like huge bright yellow shorts, a few other baggy outfits in the background. Then, is this wonderful example here, one of the best fashion moments from the halls of DCS – the dudes with the mullets. When Paige is asked, what is a mullet, she points to them and growls, “THAT.” And this dude on the right definitely has a prize winning mullet. And I think it’s a requirement that a mullet must pair with denim. And the dude on the left is like a rebel/punk kinda guy who actually looks a lot like Johnny DiMarco (but thankfully we don’t have to think about him for several more years).  Then, Angie’s day care teacher is watching Craig who is definitely acting as creepy as possible – I captured her because she’s got those awesome skinny 2000s eyebrows, yes queen! As I’m writing this on the blog, it’s October, the month I indulge in shaving off my brows for costume purposes, so I’ve been having fun drawing those 2000s brows on my own face. And finally, Joey is trying to sell a car to this nice looking couple dressed in traditional cultural garb, which I will not even attempt to identify, but it’s beautiful.

Okay so, this is the part of the B plot where Paige is convinced she has a mullet. That’s a hilarious notion, but I don’t quite see it. I mean, I see what they tried to do. They poofed up the top and pinned it back the way someone might when trying to hide an actual mullet, but… I think they could have made this even funnier. Ah well, no shade intended. Besides the “mullet”, Paige displays excellent 2000s style. First, we get some classic tinted frameless shades. She wears a butterfly crop top that looks like it came straight out of Limited Too. It’s so hilarious how obscene and jarring low rise/hip hugger jeans look today. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m just now coming to the realization that they aren’t “cool” anymore, but still, sometimes when I get hit with a sight of someone’s lower abdomen I’m like WHOA. And really that’s what makes me realize it’s not current anymore. Seriously, follow a few 2000s fashion accounts on instagram and you’ll come to a LOT of realizations. And you’ll probably be shocked at seeing 6 inches of skin below Paris Hilton’s bellybutton. Anyway, with this outfit, she’s also got a clear backpack. Next I included this shot of Paige from like, Toby and JT’s freakin, dream date webpage or something – not much to report, just wavy hair and a white shirt. Next, another set of low rise jeans, a crop top, and tinted glasses. This time the top is purple, complete with stars on the boobs. You know, she was slightly risque in the halls of Degrassi before Manny stole the title.

So JT’s got the B plot in this 2-parter. He wants to ask Paige Michalchuk on a date. I’m sorry, but hetero guys so often have absolutely no perception of when a lady is out of their league. It’s very frustrating sometimes. No offense to JT but he’s a boy. Paige is a woman. Gotta love his style though. First is a Hawaiian shirt open over a tee with a horizontal chest stripe. Backwards hat, baggy pants, tiny cool-guy sunglasses. That picture of him doing a creepy grin in the sunglasses is when he’s saying “Come to papa” about Paige. Gross. Then, he wears a green tee with a skateboard on it, with a necklace and another backwards cap.

Jimmy is… what is he doing here? OH yeah. He’s staring down Sean, who has  befriended the new kid, Craig. I think Jimmy’s trying to determine what to make off this budding camaraderie. He’s wearing a DC Shoes tee, and his stylist has tucked some sleek warm sunglasses into his collar because I know Jimmy wouldn’t pick those out.

Hazel is just over here being a diva. She first wears a purple tee with an athletic number on it and a v-neckline with eyelets. Then, a black tank, blue headband, a bulky white belt around those low-rise jeans, and those “I’m a bad bitch” sunglasses.

Craig’s dad scares the crap outta me. Way more than Rick’s dad did. Something about the whole aesthetic of the Manning family. The out of date, brown, colorless house, their blank and dreary wardrobes, all of it really complements the discomfort. Here are a few of his looks – suits, dress shirts, tiny glasses.

S1E15: Jagged Little Pill
Aired: 2002

Poor Toby. He didn’t choose the drugs, the drugs chose him. He wears a practically monochromatic outfit – an open plaid shirt, a tee with a horizontal chest stripe, and baggy cargo pants. For ecstasy night he wears a grey shirt, somehow illustrating his squareness even further. Oh hell yeah, I forgot it’s got these ultralong sleeves. Hilarious! And another horizontal chest stripe. And for the morning after, a washed out green tee that’s so colorless I can’t stand it. Men in the 2000s had very little options.

First Liberty is wearing a blue tee with red and yellow accents. Then she actually takes it up a notch for the party. Is this the firs time she’s worn her hair down? And she wears a sweater in Degrassi colors, looking… almost… COOL?!?!?!
