Now it’s time for the star of the show, Manny, in her very first storyline! We begin with a daydream sequence – her half ponytail and dark jean jacket quickly transform into a pastel ballgown, gloves, curly hair, and full makeup. As you may know, she asks Craig out on a date and all that. Next we move on to the date outfit. She keeps it cute and casual – all black with the same dark denim jacket over top, and her hair in a twisty half-updo. For the review afterwards at school, she wears a 3/4 sleeve blue and white tie-dyed tee with bedazzling and a flower on it. Honestly the more I look at this last photo the sadder I get.

Terri’s got the B plot today! First she wears a coral button down and her hair in a twisty updo. Omg the clasp of her necklace has fallen down to the front. lol. With it she wears like, a midi pencil skirt and white tennies. Not crazy about those long denim skirts personally. Next is more twisty hair, a peachy v-neck, a beige sweater draped over the shoulders all 80s style, jean capris, and her white tennies again. She’s seen modeling a jean jacket, red turtleneck, black blazer, etc. And finally, a darling white peasant-looking button up top with another interesting updo that I don’t know how to describe.

And she tells off Mohammed which is a very iconic moment. I mean I love that this issue of body image and weight is being addressed, but I honestly think it could have been handled a little differently, a little better. I don’t know, I am just left feeling weird with the way Spinner was like “Yeah dudes prefer skinny girls but sometimes we like girls like you.” I mean… like them sometimes for what exactly? Your porn selection? What? And like, that statement was supposed to be helpful.

And the way Terri has to be like “Most girls on the planet look like this [so lower your standards]!” or something, like, you know what I mean? It seems like the main point from the episode was like, don’t worry kids, someone out there will still like you despite the fact you’re curvier! And that was the message, the end. Anyone else, or is it just me?

I don’t know, it was never really about Terri loving, embracing, and accepting herself. It was about her reacting to how everyone ELSE feels about her body. Ya know? Honestly, the main interactions were about how boys feel about her body. It’s so weird. I mean Paige was like “Oh man I would wear that skirt if I was plus size, you’re so lucky” meh but that’s it. We never really got to see Terri come to any kind of resolution. We never saw follow up. We never saw her confidence skyrocket, we never saw her SLAY the next ad campaign, we never saw her look in the mirror and smile, we never saw any change, any evolution. We just learned that some clothes come in plus size only, and some dudes like thin girls and some dudes like “girls with a figure”. Sometimes.

Hazel’s still all about the headbands. First she’s in her cheer uniform with a matching headband. Next is this total 2000s glam look – a blue v-neck tank, sparkly necklace, low rider jeans, and slick ass shades. She accompanies Paige to the party that Dean is at. Upon her entry I managed a shot of her strappy wedges. She wears an updo and a ruffled top with floral and animal prints – or this might have been a dress, I can’t recall. Then, back at school, she wears a pink printed tee with a pink headband, hoop earrings, flare jeans, and platforms.

First Ellie is sporting an elaborate purplish braided updo, with frosty eyeshadow, dark lips, a bellybutton ring, denim skirt, a black vest thing over a grey tee and mesh long sleeves, knee-high socks, and chunky shoes. Oh yeah and a close up of this triple-buckle grommeted belt accenting that low-rise skirt. People are so quick to call her “goth” but she’s so different than goth. Her style is really unique, I love it. She gets her cartilage pierced like it was nothing and goes along on her way. Next, is El in RED. I hate when people say redheads shouldn’t wear red or pink. Because I LIVE for it. This getup is bomb. A red flare-sleeve shirt under a black tank, plaid skirt, spiked necklace, and another braided updo. I adore this!

Dude, I love this episode. I love both the A plot and the B plot. AND I just realized that this is Ashley’s actual blossoming into a goth goddess. We’ve seen hints of it approaching, but since the last episode she has chopped her hair off and is now dressed as a full queen. It’s interesting because, you can tell that independently, Ashley was feeling dark. But then it’s like, when she met Ellie, Ashley really let her goth flag fly. And forgive me for rambling, as someone who feels Ashley is a kindred spirit. But I totally understand Ashley, not only in her real natural inclination to the dark side, but also her need to compensate where she feels insecure still, especially around seasoned alt-girl Ellie. Ellie on the other hand isn’t trying to impress Ashley or anyone. But anyway, this is our first Degrassi goth since Faith of DJH, and I welcome her with open arms.

Ashley wears a short do and long nails; black choker and hoop earrings; black netted top and black skirt; chunky black shoes. The situation here is that Ashley wants to get a piercing for street cred to be a comparable friend to Ellie. The next day, she wears a dark cardi over yet another black ensemble. This pencil skirt has lacing down the front which I love. I had one just like it. She’s got another majestic choker on today, along with frosty blue eyeshadow and some dark lip gloss. And then of course she has an embarrassing bailout on the piercing table. Her fear of needles was stronger than her desire for clout.

And welcome to Ashley’s official goth stage. I hate to call it a phase. Even though eventually she evolves into more of a rocker type, I don’t think that is a betrayal of her goth/alt roots. They’re still there, but sometimes it’s just more practical to tone it down a bit. I don’t doubt her sincerity as a goth, even though it doesn’t last forever. And I really really enjoy it. It’s rather jarring, especially toward the end of season 2. Jarringly majestic. (Majestic being the word that I will overuse to describe her elegance.)

Looks like Spike is just cloaked in darkness this whole episode here in her dimly-lit house. First she’s wearing a white v-neck and a blue zip up hoodie. Then she’s watching the tube with snake in what looks like cropped jeans and a red vest over a blue tee. And after the formal event, she’s wearing what looks like the red dress from the class reunion, but it’s hard to tell because she’s basically covered her entire body with a shawl. I always hated when people do that – what’s the point of wearing a beautiful dress if you’re going to walk around basically wrapped in a blanket?

Paige wears a paisley-type crop top of orange and yellow, black cropped pants, and platform mules. She completes the look with little braids in her hair, tinted glasses, and her bellybutton ring on display. You’ll also see that she’s carrying that clear case as a purse again. The next ‘fit is for school picture day. It’s amazing. I love Paige in pink. She’s got her hair down, with a few random pieces curled prom-style. It’s horrendous. Like in the best day. She wears a pink jean jacket over a pink top, and frosty makeup. Oh yeah and the look has to be temporarily ruined when she most don her lab coat for science class. But she’ll make it through.

Paige “Mullet-chuk” agrees to go on a date with JT and her friends will pay her $30, so she can then get her mullet fixed. Man, where can I go to get my hair done for $30 please? I’ve just recently sworn off salons because I can’t afford that life. Anyway, her “mullet” is still clipped back and she wears a blue tanktop and little silver necklaces. For the date, it’s hilarious, she shows up in a zipup hoodie done all the way up and sunglasses to hide her identity. In the aftermath, I really like this shirt, it’s a multicolored blouse with a flower pattern.

Terri’s stepped up from her usual pajama and or athletic-chic style for this episode. Her hair is down and pulled half back, and she sports hoop earrings, a floral blouse, and a denim pencil skirt. She does put on a hoodie and tennis shoes though, to make it a bit more casual. And then I did throw in this pic of her from Toby’s dating computer program or whatever the heck is going on there. And that’s more of her normal style. Something you’d sleep in, except worn to school.
