First Caitlin wears jeans and a maroon tee. Then, in beautifying herself to serve in the role as bridesmaid, she’s seen in a smock and a towel around her hair. And finally, the bridesmaid dress (which she said she picked out), is a dusty green color and comes complete with a neck scarf. She wears an elaborate twisty updo featuring hair flowers. Personally I hate dusty pink and dusty green. If you’re going to be green, BE GREEN! Like we didn’t see enough crappy colors on Caitlin in DJH and DH. Here’s some more.

Now it’s time for the star of the show, Manny, in her very first storyline! We begin with a daydream sequence – her half ponytail and dark jean jacket quickly transform into a pastel ballgown, gloves, curly hair, and full makeup. As you may know, she asks Craig out on a date and all that. Next we move on to the date outfit. She keeps it cute and casual – all black with the same dark denim jacket over top, and her hair in a twisty half-updo. For the review afterwards at school, she wears a 3/4 sleeve blue and white tie-dyed tee with bedazzling and a flower on it. Honestly the more I look at this last photo the sadder I get.

I love Ellie time! First she wears her hair in twisty half pigtails, a red long sleeve with a black vest, and of course tons of jewelry and makeup. Then in the next scene, I like to imagine she is repurposing some clothes from when she was younger and dressed like a normie – she’s got this printed silky yellow and pink top, over a mesh long sleeve and under a black tank. She’s also got a grommet belt and black pants. And frosty frosty eyeshadow, as you do in the 2000s. I love how elaborate her looks are. Meanwhile people like Snake, Sean, and Craig literally just put on a plain tee.

Terri’s got the B plot today! First she wears a coral button down and her hair in a twisty updo. Omg the clasp of her necklace has fallen down to the front. lol. With it she wears like, a midi pencil skirt and white tennies. Not crazy about those long denim skirts personally. Next is more twisty hair, a peachy v-neck, a beige sweater draped over the shoulders all 80s style, jean capris, and her white tennies again. She’s seen modeling a jean jacket, red turtleneck, black blazer, etc. And finally, a darling white peasant-looking button up top with another interesting updo that I don’t know how to describe.

And she tells off Mohammed which is a very iconic moment. I mean I love that this issue of body image and weight is being addressed, but I honestly think it could have been handled a little differently, a little better. I don’t know, I am just left feeling weird with the way Spinner was like “Yeah dudes prefer skinny girls but sometimes we like girls like you.” I mean… like them sometimes for what exactly? Your porn selection? What? And like, that statement was supposed to be helpful.

And the way Terri has to be like “Most girls on the planet look like this [so lower your standards]!” or something, like, you know what I mean? It seems like the main point from the episode was like, don’t worry kids, someone out there will still like you despite the fact you’re curvier! And that was the message, the end. Anyone else, or is it just me?

I don’t know, it was never really about Terri loving, embracing, and accepting herself. It was about her reacting to how everyone ELSE feels about her body. Ya know? Honestly, the main interactions were about how boys feel about her body. It’s so weird. I mean Paige was like “Oh man I would wear that skirt if I was plus size, you’re so lucky” meh but that’s it. We never really got to see Terri come to any kind of resolution. We never saw follow up. We never saw her confidence skyrocket, we never saw her SLAY the next ad campaign, we never saw her look in the mirror and smile, we never saw any change, any evolution. We just learned that some clothes come in plus size only, and some dudes like thin girls and some dudes like “girls with a figure”.

Shout, Part 2
Aired: 2002

Terri first rushes up to Paige with dreams of LA, wearing that floral chiffon pencil skirt that the wore for the dance in season 1. She wears it with a jean jacket and messenger bag. Her hair is in twisty corn rows. OH, and she wears one of those ball hair ties — love those! Then we have a wardrobe change – Terri dons her old PMS outfit – wide leg jeans, a shimmery top, and blue shades. And Paige is NOT having it. Cheesy girl bands are over, apparently. Crazy how much can phase out in one year. Then she is seen in this peasant top, which loses all of its glamor under a zip up hoodie. With it she wears a jean skirt and her hair is up in a clip. Oh, and chunky white tennies as well. And finally, for the PMS show, her hair is twisty again and she wears a black dress. Sadly we don’t get to enjoy PMS’s outfits much, I couldn’t get very good shots.

It’s an Ashley episode! Oh, this is great. Okay, so this episode focuses in on the aftermath of Ashley’s ecstasy night, which at this point was several months ago. She hurt a lot of feelings and is still generally shunned from the gang, except Terri, since all Ashley said to Terri was “I love your shirt, it’s so shiny like stars!”

This first outfit is definitely another glimmer of pre-goth imo. She wears black pants, a black 3/4 sleeve tee, a black choker, and some silver jewelry. She tries to casually ease her way back into a Paige conversation but gets shut down. But she proceeds to grovel the same day and starts to get her friends back on her side.

The next outfit we see is back at Ashley’s house. She’s in a good mood, talking about how well things are going now. She’s wearing some purple pants and a grey tank.

Then it’s school picture day! Ashley’s confidence is back. She’s got her hair twisted half up and wears an orange camo tank. Another appearance of colored camo, one of my favorite little trends of this era. She’s got on dark jeans with a button fly. I threw in this shot of her in a lab coat too. It’s so sad to see her walking with her head up again, only to be crushed once more. By the end of the day, things spiral back out of control and she’s donned a Degrassi Panthers sweatshirt for the school picture, accessorized with a tear running down her cheek.

Emma is wearing her perfect color scheme in this episode – green and browns. She wears her hair in a little twisty thing, a green and white tank, olive pants, and a tan jacket. I really liked her friendship with Craig.

Terri is wearing twisty hair in a cornrow formation, and a pretty athletic looking Ecko outfit with a white vest. For the party, she’s got on a grey tight-fitting 3/4 sleeve top “that’s so shiny like stars” and a delicate little necklace with a “T” on it. It’s funny, personalized necklaces kind of phased out but right now they’re back again, don’t you think? Then for the morning after, she’s got on a grey sweatshirt and pajama pants. Good thing Ashley didn’t  blurt out any Terri insults, or she woulda woken up the next morning with only Toby by her side.

It’s Ashley time! First she’s just wearing, I dunno, a black polo and blue sweater, and she’s got her hair in those twisty rows. Then she runs around in a blue turtleneck and zip up hoodie telling Jimmy not to fight Sean. He does anyway, so here she is the next day in a tan cowlneck and blue jacket, yelling at him about it.

First Terri is wearing a periwinkle short sleeve with some kind of cartoon animals sewn on the front, over a long sleeve, and a headband. A slight upgrade from her usual pajama-chic style. But then we’re back with a tank and a falling-off zip up hoodie. Next, the directors were like, “look in the mirror and act like you’re primping yourself” so Terri’s actor just wipes her forehead multiple times with her hand. She’s wearing horizontal stripes, a hooded vest, and twisty hair, all three of which have become  recognized trends here in Season 1 so far. Then, for the show, she actually wears what Paige wants her to – her hair is wavy, she’s got blue sunglasses, hoop earrings, a shimmery shirt, that #1 necklace, a chain belt, and jeans.
