JT wears a white tee under an unbuttoned patterened shirt with a ridiculously blue backwards cap and a puka shell necklace again (or are those wooden beads? I can’t be sure). I would also like to point out his blue backpack and the fact he is riding a scooter to school. Then he’s got another open shirt, kinda Hawaiian, over a yellow tee with that necklace again. We also get to see some slightly spiked hair.

Welcome to broomheadz Jimmy Brooks. If you know nothing else about Degrassi, you know Drake was in it and he was in a wheelchair. But guess what? We get 3.5 seasons of Drake NOT in a wheelchair too! And believe it or not, he was not always a great actor! But hey, I’m not here to critique anyone’s acting skills. I’m here to critique their poor fashion choices. Ha- just kidding! I’m here to appreciate poor fashion choices.
Anyway so since we are in 2001, there’s a bunch of baggy clothes. I swear, even today, baggy clothes look really intimidating to me. I mean, looks like, you’ve got some power, like you’re a real tough guy, like you’ve got some cool shit going on. Jimmy wears all baggy everything typically. And I never really noticed that a lot of his ensembles are pretty drab. Baggy jeans, baggy hoodies or sweaters, and a few athletic pieces. Enjoy this intro, you’ll get a lot more of this as we continue.

Alright SO now we’re here with Emma on this first day of school. My commentary is finna get longer and longer as we are here in 2001. So I remember when this like, halfway-pulled-through ponytail rose to popularity. It is still confusing to me to this day. Why not pull it all the way through? Did you get tired? Did you forget you were making a ponytail and abandoned the project? Is this some version of a bun created by a person who didn’t know how to make a bun? It’s like, the lazy-person’s bun. The unfinished ponytail. And like, the thing is, this isn’t even cute, you know? A ponytail is so much cuter. And pulling it the rest of the way through to make it a completed ponytail, doesn’t even FEEL that different. I used to work with this lady who had gorgeous long red hair and would always wear this …. wait what should we call this style? The unfinished ponytail. She would always wear this unfinished ponytail and it drove me crazy because her hair was so pretty and I just wanted to see that ponytail flow in all its glory. This unfinished ponytail is so repressed, so inhibited, and not to mention it leaves a super weird crease in your hair.
Okay, that was extremely therapeutic and healing for me. But for the record, I am glad Emma is wearing her hair like this because it’s REALISTIC, beautifully awkward, and it also brings back memories of the time period. Let’s move on. She too has a cross body backback, and she wears a little tee with stars on it. Then, she sports the same hairstyle, with a colored striped tank under a blue vest with jeans.

Y’all I have a complete momcrush on Ms. Kerwin. I don’t know what it is. I love her voice, I love her parenting style, I just love her. She’s the best. Also, she was on a Goosebumps episode too, fun fact, so she’s even cooler. She wears this peachy wrap blouse with some khaki slacks and little hoop earrings, and a beaded choker that is surprisingly 90s-00s, for a mom.

I am pleased to bring Ashley Kerwin to broomheadz. I just love Ashley, especially in Seasons 1 and 2. I identify so incredibly with her carefully styled yet still awkward hair, intentional yet awkward outfits, and those overplucked eyebrows. Like, I feel that so much. First we start off with Ashley’s long-sleeve long-pants pajamas. Then she waits for her turn in the bathroom, where we can see that “training” bra hanging in the shower. I think it’s just a regular bra tbh. On the first day back at school, she wears a purpley-blue sleeveless shirt with a hood, a nice 2000s necklace, and a headband to try to control that insane amount of hair she has. She wears a cross body backpack thingie, which I had in grade 8 as well, which I still own today because it’s awesome. And finally she wears some khakis and I’m pretty sure for shoes she has mules, but I was unable to capture. As you may remember, Ash is running for school president. She wears a polo shirt which is white but has a red collar, sleeves, and chest pocket. With it she wears a big ol’ maxi pencil skirt, hoop earrings, a headband, and some more necklaces. What do you think of Ashley’s style?

Yick!! You actually get to see him a bit when Joey punches Keith or whatever but everything is so shaky I couldn’t get a shot. Let me tell you about the challenges of screenshotting DTNG. Firstly, they do a LOT of closeup in the face shots. Second, they do a lot of “handheld” shaky camera type of filming. Third, my DVDs don’t allow me to scrub forward or backward if I miss a shot. It only lets me go forward or backward in chapters. But fortunately I was able to grab this little Yick shot from the deleted scenes. He’s got gelled, spiky hair, a nice suit, and a little, soul patch? Is that what it’s called?

Unbeknownst to many Americans, Wheels showed up in DTNG Epsiode 2 to the reunion. He came to apologize to Lucy in person, 10 years later. It’s a really powerful scene. It’s also extremely sad. Speaking of sad, Wheels has lost his mullet, his signature glasses, and he seems to have pieced together a suit as though he hasn’t worn one in 10 years. I’m just really sad. I’m inclined to make jokes. But I can’t really. Wheels tried to dress up to look presentable to give this apology he’s probably rehearsed for 10 years. Or maybe he kind of considered going to the reunion but when he got to the front steps he just couldn’t go in. Who knows. Hard to talk about fashion at a time like this.

Trish still seems so youthful! She tells us how she went out and partied her ass off for the last 8 years and has just now gotten sober. I don’t know why that’s the first thing she says about herself. But maybe there were a lot of rumors and she wanted to be upfront about it. She too, is wearing a floral spaghetti strap dress, and has unfortunately ditched the mohawk.

Alright so this guy says he’s Ricky. I don’t know you, Ricky. And it’s possible that there are a couple of people from these scenes who weren’t actually in DJH or DH. Maybe this is literally a random filler dude. I don’t know, please help if you can. Oh yeah, and fashion wise, he’s wearing a suit. Not much to say.
