DTNGFASHION S5E6: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For Aired: 2005
This little storyline of like, Jimmy being into drawing and Ellie being into horror comics and stuff.. it seems like it’s coming out of left field. It seems forced almost. And it reminds me of how little we’re shown what these kids are actually “into”. Ellie just always seems like a sudden expert at any given thing, it’s kind of annoying.
Anyway, so her hair loves the curling wand now. And her clothes are still pretty cool but she’s definitely devolving. lol. First she wears her Emily the Strange bag with a long sleeve shirt under a short sleeve shirt and her go-to o-ring necklace. She takes Jimmy to the museum in a leather jacket, studded belt, and these flare jeans that are freaking cuffed like 6 inches. She and Paige both. How short ARE these people?! I had to buy long length jeans back then. She’s seen briefly looking cute in maroon, and finally in some graphic tee, giving Jimmy a LEADING smile.
Oh, hey! I took about a week off from posting because I ran out of storage space here on my site. I use WordPress, and I had filled up my Personal plan to the limit. I thought I was on Premium already and thought I couldn’t afford the next upgrade. Turns out I only had Personal, so now I’ve upgraded to Premium, and hope to have a few more years of doing this with y’all! I mean, I have like 14 more seasons to cover! Let’s hope Premium gets me through that!
Anyway, I’ve got the rando roundup for you today. First is the Tankini Tramp, who reminds me of Sara Paxton. Then is this group shot of the Grade 8s (I know, they’re older now) which is undeniably awesome. Ya know, I tend not to question these pants. Ever. Because those were the only pants I knew at the time and still feel like “normal” pants to me, even as trends changed. But like… objectively… do they look.. BAD?! Ill-fitting, even? Unflattering? Well, even if they do, skinny jeans are MUCH worse.
I had to include this mannequin shot because you can see the low-riseness of the pants, the tightness of the shirt, and that grommet belt, oof. Also at the mall, Manny is looking at this girl wearing a low-rise mini skirt, and the girl is also wearing the wig that Manny tries on… yeaaaah y’all can’t get anything past me!! I’m onto your secrets! Also at the mall is this gorgeous blonde with fillers and heavy makeup, also a miniskirt. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I still love and always have loved that golden Playboy blonde color that’s currently “out”. It’ll be back, just you watch.
Why do all the adults wear 70s-inspired clothes? Huge collars and bell sleeves? Does the wardrobe dept do that on purpose to show they’re from a different generation? Anyway, this rude receptionist for Bernice wears a terribly uncomfortably looking tweed blazer over a collar that reaches the ends of her shoulders. Gross.
Back at school, we see an assortment of cross-body bags and messenger bags. At the hot-girls-only party, Tankini Tramp Sara Paxton is apparently friends with Emma now, and her bra straps are hangin out – a favorite look! And finally.. the vodka guy is kinda gross, isn’t he?
Oh man, it’s time for Marco’s moment. First he’s in a zip up jacket, hoodie, and some kind of like comic book shirt. Also shout out the soul patch, don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it before, but there it is, looking itchy. Next Marco is in just a standard graphic tee with something random & unrelated on it, and I like his hair like this – curly and tucked behind the ears. He’s also seen helping with the blood drive in casual khakis and this red blood vest. Oh yeah, he’s being told he can’t give blood because he’s gay. Yeesh. Next, the outfit continues on, and we’re in Dylan’s dorm. Here we can see that these casual khakis are also FLARED! Shoutout to Marco’s flares, I feel like no one ever mentions them but I am such a fan of men in flares. I was hoping it would come back big time for men when flares circled around in the late 90s/2000s, but sadly it was mostly girls wearing them. Marco also seems to have this decorative belt on his waist, and lugs around a messenger bag. And he freakin walks in on Dylan with another guy. And Dylan’s like, “Oh hey Marco!” Brutal. Marco tries his best to suck it up, so he appears at the dorm party in an orange sleeveless tee with flare jeans. Oh yeah and plants a smooch on Craig. Our last look is Marco in a dark long sleeve, with hair hair still big.
I’ve got pages of Paige to share today (ha)! First she’s in a sky blue, which has got to be one of her best colors! Also she’s got very matte makeup, almost grunge-like eyeshadow, and nice skinny 2000s eyebrows. Oh yeah, and when she realizes Snake might have seen her out in public with Mr. O, she hurriedly dons this pink cowboy hat which I LOVE! Then she’s in class in a dusty pink top which has some ruffle detail. Actually, this might be better describes as a “tunic” because this thing is long, going down past her hips. I hated that era of clothing, the whole “is this a shirt of a dress?” thing. Ugh. She also wears a messenger bag and flare jeans. And this is the outfit that she wears while fighting Manny. I hate that such an iconic moment lasted like 7 seconds and was never spoken of again. When Paige stalks Mr. O and finds his apartment, she wears a burgundy 3/4 sleeve graphic tee. We get a work uniform moment as well… and finally, a peachy paisley blouse with cuffed flare jeans and stilettos.
An Ellie episode! She’s out here living on her own, in Sean’s old apartment. First she’s seen in a black tee with a skull graphic on it. Then we get to see her a full fit – those awesome black wedge boots, fishnet tights, a black skirt, a grey tee over a mesh long sleeve, and a chain necklace. Pretty simple but very cute. We also get to see her Emily the Strange bag up close! The next ensemble is a black zip up hoodie, skull arm bands, and a camo/cargo looking skirt. For the house party that night, she keeps the arm bands and adds clips to her hair. And for the final look, we can’t really see it well but it seems to just be a black long sleeve shirt. I cannot believe Ellie wants to move back in with her mom.

Manny wears this tight tank with diagonal striping, and a short ruffly skirt. Oh yeah, check out those chunky wedge flip flops – that’s a mega 2000s moment right there!

I LOVE Manny in yellow! It’s a shame we don’t get to see that more. She wears this all yellow tracksuit, dangerously low rise as always, and a brown tee. Her hair is long, straight, and parted down the middle. She also sports a dark purple messenger bag. It’s a shame no one else wears these 2000s track suits on Degrassi! But, I didn’t have one, that’s for sure. They were kind of an edgy thing to wear, tbh.
DTNGFASHION S4E7: Time Stands Still, Part 1 Aired: 2004
Yeouch, what a post to come back from vacation with. Sooo yeah, this is Rick before the world is changed forever. First he’s wearing a freaking beret – you may know how I feel about those – with a messenger bag and just a lot of grey. Again, STILL don’t know why he came back to Degrassi all hunky dory, and DO NOT know why he’s smiling right now. The fact he keeps crawling back to each new day thinking things are going to go differently astounds me. Next he’s in a tan shirt over a brown long sleeve and khakis. Hard to imagine he’s about to break.
Okay, and you know what? My fashion commentary is actually appropriate here because this suit, makes me feel. I don’t know WHAT it is about him getting dressed by his mommy in this oversized, clunky, boxy navy suit that makes me want to cry. No one else is dressing up for trivia night – but this is super important to Rick so he’s dressing for it like it’s freaking church. But, he doesn’t fit well into the suit. He doesn’t really have a sense of style. The suit is like, not cute – if I recall, no one would be wearing a navy suit about this time period. But, this was his dad’s suit so it’s extra special. Damn, which makes it hurt even more when the suit gets covered with paint. But let me back track and just say, when someone dresses up for anything, I just feel kind of sad. It’s their way of wearing on the outside how they feel about something on the inside. And aside from all of Rick’s problems, both in his brain and with his social existence, he was excited about trivia and put on this giant dorky suit expecting the best. Maybe that’s why dressing up gets me – they’re expecting the best, ya know? Dressing up looks like hope, like confidence. And to see it all come crashing down, is a little sad on almost anyone. I empathize with Rick, a LITTLE, but don’t excuse anything of course.

I must admit, Rick sure is hopeful. Or is a better word shameless? He’s going around really thinking he can get girls to kiss him. Um, Rick, have you not… READ THE ROOM!? He is wearing his classic look – the glasses, the messenger bag, the open shirt over a tee shirt, and the baggy pants.
